CSIR CFTRI shared their technical analysis with District Administration of Keonjhar
In the first cabinet meeting held on 29th May 2019 , Cabinet of Government of Odisha under chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Minister has approved inclusion of ragi ladoos in ICDS scheme.
As a followup to this approval, a series of technical meetings have been convened under the chairmanship of Dr Saurabh Garg IAS, Principal Secretary, Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment, Govt of Odisha. CSIR CFTRI , Mysore was roped in as technical and scientific partner for overseeing the inclusion of millets in ICDS by Government of Odisha
A Memorandum of Agreement was signed between District Administration of Keonjhar, CSIR-CFTRI, State Secretariat (NCDS & WASSAN) of Odisha Millets Mission (OMM) to initiate the pilot inclusion of millets with approval of Govt of Odisha.
CSIR-CFTRI was tasked to undertake technical analysis and feasibility of inclusion of different millet recipes in ICDSBased on the study of ragi samples and discussion with the ICDS, a consultative meeting was organised to ground the implementation of inclusion of millets in ICDS in Keonjhar District under the Odisha Millets Mission (OMM).
Meeting focused on action plan and implementation strategy development for the pilot inclusion of millets including research and data collection methodologies.

For setting up of machinery for inclusion of ragi ladoos, an technical assessment of Chhatua making unit run by Radhakrishna SHG, Sadar block was also carried out in presence of DSWO madam and Dr. Usha Dharamraj from CFTRI, Mysore
Based on the field visits and discussions with stakeholders, consensus emerged that it is feasible to implement inclusion of ragi ladoos in ICDS in Keonjhar.
While inclusion of millets (jowar and little millet) in hot cooked meal is difficult to be implemented with current capacities. It shall be taken up in phased manner after streamlining of the inclusion of ragi ladoos in ICDS.
After implementation of the pilot, it shall be taken up in the other districts of OMM in phased manner. A detailed action plan shall be submitted for the consideration of the Collector & DM, Keonjhar.
